  • Texas vs. the Nation Dish: QBs Crompton, Perrilloux boost NFL draft stock

After the Texas squad's 36-17 victory Saturday in the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game, Sporting News draft expert Russ Lande and his team of former NFL scouts identified the players who helped their draft status the most this past week in El Paso: Jonathan Crompton, QB, Tennessee Though he was outshined in terms of flashy play and stats in the game, Crompton clearly helped himself. For a quarterback who was not on the Combine invitation list, Crompton proved he has legitimate tools to play in the NFL. A number of scouts told us he showed better than expected athleticism and a live arm.

For various reasons, these players headed for the 2010 NFL draft must shine in Feb. 6's Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in El Paso, Texas.   Jonathan Crompton must quiet doubts. Jonathan Crompton, QB, Tennessee Crompton did not put up great passing stats, so he came to El Paso as a little-known quantity. All week at practice, however, he was head and shoulders above the other quarterbacks and showed the physical talent and accuracy to play in the NFL. Since he wasn't a dominant passer, there are doubts about him, so he must show his stuff to keep climbing draft boards.   Ryan…

But no sooner are the last comments made on that thread than the US Justice Department finally answers Senator Orin Hatch's request to consider anti-trust legalities with the current state of the BCS. This change comes only 14 months after Kiffin replaced long time Vol coach Phil Fulmer. Wringing his hands both literally and figuratively at his hastily called press conference, Kiffin said that the decision was a hard one and that ultimately, USC was the probably the only job he would leave Tennessee for. • Kiffin to go to USC.

    Andrew Rosin
    12 Jan 2010 | 10:15 pm
Kiffin to go to USC. Are you surprised? I’m not. What in the world has told you that Lane Kiffin is anything but a man of low moral fiber. The multiple offseason controversies of last season? The fact that two of his hottest recruits rolled up on random people at a gas station for pocket change? Starting Jonathan Crompton? That was cheap. I’m sorry. Basically, what I’m saying is, the average football coach is nothing more than a politician. They want to keep the power of their fiefdom. And they will say and do anything to keep it. Until something better comes along. And for…

Colt McCoy Injured in BCS Title Game, Video. The score is currently 6-7. Texas came out and had everything going there way. They looked like they were going to go up 10-0 in the 1st. Colt McCoy the 4 year Texas starting QB runs into a little bit of trouble by the name of Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus. Texas was held to a field goal and Bama scored a TD. The score is now 24-6 going into the 3rd. Colt will not return. Texas had Bama on the ropes. This injury might be the biggest part of Bama getting, what they call, # 13.

Greg Muckelroy? An honest mistake, Video. The Legend, Brent Musburger, called the BCS National Championship, and called Alabama’s starting QB Greg McElroy, Greg Muckelroy. It is an honest mistake because Texas has a defender named Roddrick Muckelroy. You know he was embarrassed but it was an honest slip of the tongue.

  • Kicking Off NFL Draft Season

    9 Feb 2010 | 2:38 am
The Super Bowl put a cap on the last live football we'll see until spring games and the last true game we'll get until Labor Day weekend. Seeing the Saints beat the Colts, for some, marked the end of football season and  time to transition into "basketball mode." However, for us real football fans, especially of the college persuasion, the Super Bowl acted as a marker for two reasons. First it signified that we're roughly one month from spring ball. Spring is where teams are made, where blood is shed and fights break out after fifteen days of battling and so much self scouting and film…
