Hayes mailbag: It's time for folks to open their eyes -- Boise State belongs

Texas vs. the Nation Dish: QBs Crompton, Perrilloux boost NFL draft stock
6 Feb 2010 | 11:17 pmAfter the Texas squad's 36-17 victory Saturday in the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game, Sporting News draft expert Russ Lande and his team of former NFL scouts identified the players who helped their draft status the most this past week in El Paso: Jonathan Crompton, QB, Tennessee Though he was outshined in terms of flashy play and stats in the game, Crompton clearly helped himself. For a quarterback who was not on the Combine invitation list, Crompton proved he has legitimate tools to play in the NFL. A number of scouts told us he showed better than expected athleticism and a live arm. -
Texas vs. The Nation Dish: Crompton, Perrilloux need to cap solid weeks
5 Feb 2010 | 5:13 pmFor various reasons, these players headed for the 2010 NFL draft must shine in Feb. 6's Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in El Paso, Texas. Jonathan Crompton must quiet doubts. Jonathan Crompton, QB, Tennessee Crompton did not put up great passing stats, so he came to El Paso as a little-known quantity. All week at practice, however, he was head and shoulders above the other quarterbacks and showed the physical talent and accuracy to play in the NFL. Since he wasn't a dominant passer, there are doubts about him, so he must show his stuff to keep climbing draft boards. Ryan…

Shocker!!! Lane Kiffin Back to USC After Only One Year at Tennessee

This change comes only 14 months after Kiffin replaced long time Vol coach Phil Fulmer. Wringing his hands both literally and figuratively at his hastily called press conference, Kiffin said that the decision was a hard one and that ultimately, USC was the probably the only job he would leave Tennessee for. Kiffin's departure leaves in it's wake a slew of wreckage from his inaugural stint as a college head coach--the pre-season trash talking, the admonishments by commissioner Mike…

6 Feb 2010 | 7:52 amFox is reporting that 13 year old David Sills has been recruited by USC The 13 year old is to be one of the ‘greatest Quarterback of all times” if you believe the hype.. The story of course is developing… but much in my opinion changes between 13 and 18 … that’s just too damm young to recruit anyone. -
Florida 13, Alabama 32

More important, the Tide is just one win away from an even bigger title—its first national crown since 1992. oh noes!! What’s going to happen? -
playoff proposal fumbles
25 Jun 2009 | 12:05 pmFrohnmayer said “there was no overall support for the proposal, although some conferences were interested in considering certain elements of it in the future — particularly those related to revenue, access and governance of the BCS arrangement.” according to the Kansas city star “In the last six years, I’ve read pundits, heard the pronouncements of broadcasters and collected several cubic feet of e-mail printouts from advocates of an NFL-style playoff system,” he said. “Even those that go beyond sound bite certitude share two intertwined and fatal deficiencies: they disrespect… -
UCLA QB Ben Olson Fractures Foot

Hartley's performance lost in post-game euphoria
9 Feb 2010 | 7:11 amThis posting is going to get into two topics that are searing on my brain today, which is another way to say I am procrastinating. First, Ohio University football coach Frank Solich has filled a key staff vacancy — the position of tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator — with an up-and-coming coaching prospect, my brother-in-law, Brian Haines. Brian Haines Though I am (completely) biased, I believe Solich has made the right hire on several different levels: 1.) Haines is young, personable and will relate well to the young men on the team. It is crucial that coaching staffs… -
Tuesday morning buffet
9 Feb 2010 | 3:36 amEat… there’s no football for a while. For Georgia Tech, more and more, it’s looking like Andy McCollum. When you haven’t played in a bowl game in two years, scheduling two 1-AA teams in the same season doesn’t seem like the brightest move. This has to be a record: “The Gophers football team under coach Tim Brewster the past three years has had six coordinators.” Best of all, the AD thinks it’s some kind of coincidence. Oversigning at Florida? No problem – Meyer… er, Addazio… er, somebody will take care of it. Today’s… -

Your 2010 Beavers: Special Teams
8 Feb 2010 | 5:30 pmThe first post on the 2010 Oregon State Beaver football team. We will provide a depth chart breakdown by position. By we I mean me. Kicker – Justin Kahut returns for his senior season. Kahut was dependable throughout the year finishing 22 of 27 on field goal attempts and 45 or 47 on extra points. Sophomore Ryan Allen is listed as the backup but almost certainly won’t see the field. Incoming freshman Trevor Romaine will greyshirt in 2010 and enroll at OSU in January 2011. Romaine will presumably be handed the starting kicking duties for the 2011 season. Punter –… -

500 days of Kiffin, Movie Trailer
27 Jan 2010 | 12:19 am500 days of Kiffin, Movie Trailer. Fox Searchlight Entertainment really has their index finger on the pulse of college football fans of Tennessee. Good luck with a coach that has proven absolutely nothing, USC. What will happen when his Daddy retires? Bad news for Kiffin haters: USC is the cushiest job in all of NCAA football, next to Notre Dame. They get crazy amount of talent and media coverage, and their conference sucks at every aspect of the game of football. He will most likely do a serviceable job at USC. He will most likely play in a few Rose Bowls. The only good news is that he will… -

Kiffin to go to USC.
12 Jan 2010 | 10:15 pmKiffin to go to USC. Are you surprised? I’m not. What in the world has told you that Lane Kiffin is anything but a man of low moral fiber. The multiple offseason controversies of last season? The fact that two of his hottest recruits rolled up on random people at a gas station for pocket change? Starting Jonathan Crompton? That was cheap. I’m sorry. Basically, what I’m saying is, the average football coach is nothing more than a politician. They want to keep the power of their fiefdom. And they will say and do anything to keep it. Until something better comes along. And for… -
Colt McCoy Injured in BCS Title Game, Video
7 Jan 2010 | 7:45 pmColt McCoy Injured in BCS Title Game, Video. The score is currently 6-7. Texas came out and had everything going there way. They looked like they were going to go up 10-0 in the 1st. Colt McCoy the 4 year Texas starting QB runs into a little bit of trouble by the name of Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus. Texas was held to a field goal and Bama scored a TD. The score is now 24-6 going into the 3rd. Colt will not return. Texas had Bama on the ropes. Kicking Off NFL Draft Season
9 Feb 2010 | 2:38 amThe Super Bowl put a cap on the last live football we'll see until spring games and the last true game we'll get until Labor Day weekend. Seeing the Saints beat the Colts, for some, marked the end of football season and time to transition into "basketball mode." However, for us real football fans, especially of the college persuasion, the Super Bowl acted as a marker for two reasons. First it signified that we're roughly one month from spring ball. Spring is where teams are made, where blood is shed and fights break out after fifteen days of battling and so much self scouting and film… -
The Heartbeat of a Homer: UNC Quick 2010 Schedule Analysis
5 Feb 2010 | 12:54 pmWe’ll take a time out for a little out and out homerism as the ACC and more importantly the Tar Heels schedule dropped yesterday. South Carolina: Did The Gamecocks Run In Place?
4 Feb 2010 | 12:35 pmEveryone's gushing over the Marcus Lattimore signing but how close is South Carolina to turning the corner? A team that has never participated in the SEC Title game is coming up on a year where their three chief rivals are down for very different reasons. If the Gamecocks are going to make hay they've got to do so in recruiting and on the field. South Carolina, the “other” USC and the “other” Carolina finished with a class ranked an average of 27.3 when all three services are combined.
