SEC Preseason Review: South Carolina
20 May 2013 | 1:36 pmHide Advertisement: Hide Advertisement South Carolina’s bid to win the SEC East last season was brutally ripped away during their trip to Gainesville. The Florida Gators blew out the Gamecocks 44-11 in what was a bit of a shock to the football world. Earlier in the year the Cocks soundly beat Georgia 35-7, taking an early lead in the East standings and making a major statement to the rest of the SEC. South Carolina is still in search of its first SEC Championship and with a favorable schedule could very well make a run at Atlanta at the end of 2013 football season. Key Returners… -
SEC Baseball Tournament
19 May 2013 | 7:05 amHide Advertisement: Hide Advertisement The SEC baseball regular season has come to an end. As Gator fans we are a little disappointed in the result of the 2013 season. Very high expectations were placed on this young and somewhat inexperienced squad. The Gators finished the regular season with a 29-27 record, (14-16 SEC) and have earned the 8th seed in the tournament of 12. The 2013 SEC tournament is held in Hoover, Alabama at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. Just like in football, the SEC has the best baseball conference in the country. The field is very deep, and really any team… -

I certainly believe that Georgia would have defeated the Irish in the BCS National Championship game. The Bulldogs have dropped two consecutive SEC Championship games. 17 May 2013 | 1:53 pmHide Advertisement: Show Advertisement Chris Leak first surfaced in the public spotlight 15 years ago when as an eighth-grader former Wake Forest coach Jim Caldwell offered the promising young quarterback a scholarship. When it was time for college a few years later, Leak visited UF and “simply fell in love with the university” he said Thursday. “That’s what I tell everybody. That’s the best way I can put it. SEC Preseason Review: Tennessee
15 May 2013 | 7:34 amHide Advertisement: Hide Advertisement The hoopla surrounding the Florida, Tennessee game last year gave me the impression that the Volunteers may be back on the winning track. The Gators would have none of that, as they thumped the Vols 37-20. Head coach Derek Dooley was fired at season's end and has since been replaced by former Cincinnati coach Butch Davis. In 2012, Tennessee finished 5-7 (1-7 SEC) placing 6th in the SEC East. Key Returners RB Rajion Neal, OT Antonio Richardson, RB Marlin Lane, OT Ja'Wuan James, LB Dontavis Sapp, DB Justin Coleman Key Losses QB Tyler Bray, WR…

ACC Football Standout Senior 2013: Miami
20 May 2013 | 9:19 amMiami QB Stephen Morris Showed Off in Spurts in 2012; Can He Put it All Together as a Senior? As schools’ academic years are virtually wrapped up, last season’s juniors are now this season’s seniors, and with that comes extra responsibility and expectations. In the ACC, while there were plenty of players selected in the NFL Draft, the conference still returns a strong group of seniors — many of whom are set to make a strong impact in their final seasons of eligibility. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be going team-by-team in the ACC to identify the “standout senior” that’s key… -

Video: Florida State ACC Championship, Orange Bowl ring models revealed
20 May 2013 | 3:38 amIt was good year for Florida State football. The Seminoles got a taste of the glory days for the program by winning an ACC title and a victory in a BCS bowl game, even if it was against BCS buster Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl. The Seminoles fell a little short of my preseason expectations in 2012 but I feel they might be capable of another run through the ACC this upcoming season, which kicks off in Pittsburgh against a new conference foe in week one. We now know what the celebratory and honorary bling that accompanies these milestone victories look like, thanks to some nice CAD… -
What football in Fenway Park looked like in 1963
19 May 2013 | 3:52 pmFootball in baseball stadiums still seems odd to me, but we have witnesses it happen a number of times over the years. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is hosted in the home of the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The relatively new Pinstripe Bowl takes place inside the newer Yankee Stadium, which also hosts an occasional game during the regular season as well. Illinois and Northwestern attempted to play a game in historic Wrigley Field, but that turned out to be a… -

Who will Penn State's 12th opponent in 2014 be? My money is on Syracuse
16 May 2013 | 4:22 pmBefore you continue reading, please keep this disclaimer in mind. In no way is this the start of a rumor or citing obscure anonymous sources. This is pure speculation and hypothetical thinking on my part. Now that I have cleared that up with you, let's continue. Penn State's 2014 Big Ten conference schedule was released earlier today. As you have probably seen by now, Penn State has one schedule hole to fill next season and the available weeks to work with are not exactly the most friendly. Penn State has two open weeks in October and another in November to work with. So, how will one… -

Cup of Joe: Penn State vs. Pitt is 1,214 days away
15 May 2013 | 6:58 amPenn State and Pittsburgh are scheduled to begin a four-game series in 2016, a mere 1,214 days from now, but as ACC and Big Ten spring meetings are taking place in separate locations this week there is a fresh buzz about the series. Quotes coming out of both schools have suggested there is a chance we could see the series continue beyond the 2019 game, the fourth in the four-game series already under contract. Some Penn State fans appear to be reluctant to embrace the potential revival of the series, but early poll results seem to suggest fans are overwhelmingly in favor of seeing Pitt at the… -
Penn State fan asks ESPN's Bob Ley if Joe Paterno faked his own death
14 May 2013 | 3:09 pmI honestly don't even know what to say about this. A Penn State fan mailed a letter to ESPN's Bob Ley, most noted for his role as host of Outside the Lines and his soccer coverage, and asked if it was at all possible if Joe Paterno was secretly alive somewhere. I'm used to strange mail, but this one is this year's leader in the clubhouse twitpic.com/cqhc6v — Bob Ley (@BobLeyESPN) May 14, 2013 Uhh, no. It is not. Helmet sticker to The Big Lead. Here is the first part of our 2013 Alabama Football Preview where we examined Alabama’s quarterback situation. Today we take a look at T.J. Yeldon and the Alabama running back situation. Guest Post by Joshua At running back this season, T.J. Yeldon set fire to the gridiron as a freshman, racking over 1,000 yards rushing last season. His numbers combined with junior Eddie Lacy gave Bama two 1,000-yard rushers in the same season for the first time. Add this to his 11… -

But at his point in the 2013 season, the Tide is just like any other college team in the nation. Everybody is undefeated. But what sets Alabama football apart? Florida assistant coach mocks Alabama football coach Nick Saban
15 May 2013 | 8:27 amAlabama football coach Nick Saban was ready to start preparing for the 2013 season right after the BCS Championship victory in Miami. Tell me if you have heard this one before—Nick Saban is Darth Vader…only meaner. Nick Saban makes people cry. The Alabama football coach doesn’t smile; The Alabama football coach doesn’t engage in BS sessions; The Alabama football coach doesn’t have a soul. And so the narrative goes. Perpetrated by some in the local and regional media, this view of Nick Saban lingers. Saban’s distant personality combined with his icy reaction to being doused with… -

Bob Stoops leads entire state of Oklahoma “Up In Smoke”
14 May 2013 | 12:08 amIt’s been a week since Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops made his idiotic statements to The Tulsa World about the SEC’s perceived dominance being “a lot of propaganda that gets fed out to you.” His argument was this: The top half of a league isn’t what determines its strength, but instead it’s how well the celler dwellars in the league are doing. “It depends on who you want to listen to,” Stoops said. “Listen, they’ve had the best team in college football, meaning they’ve won the national championship. That doesn’t mean…

Dwyane Wade surprises teen by appearing at her prom (NBA)
20 May 2013 | 9:20 amFollow @martyfnemec There are many ways to take an adult basketball player going to a high school prom, but I think in this context, it was a very cool thing of Miami guard Dwyane Wade to do. This girl had asked Wade to go to her prom as her date in a Youtube video, obviously not expecting anything to come of it. He proceeded to actually call her, but say that he regrettably could not attend the event. She still was happy he even called her, but then Wade walked through the front door, shocking everyone at the prom. Celebrities rarely interact with fans, and understandably so, but Wade went… -
What the Knicks need to do to beat the Pacers, by the numbers (NBA)(POLL included)
18 May 2013 | 3:28 pmFollow @martyfnemec The Knicks are on the edge of elimination and while it is tough to predict the winner of a game, trends and statistics can be used to guess. Obviously there are things on the Pacers’ side that affect the game like George Hill’s absence among other things. I will be focusing on the Knicks. The Knicks have started Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, Tyson Chandler, and Raymond Felton in every game during the series against the Pacers and alternated the fifth starter. I have calculated the points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, field goal percentage, and shot… -

Here are some random pictures I took while at the tournament. David Lingmerth, who tied for second in the Players Championship. Sergio Garcia’s feud with Tiger Woods was well-documented, as well as his fall from grace on the 17th hole. Tiger Woods smiles as the champion of the Players Championship. -
Tuesday’s Player of the Day- 4/30/2013 (NBA)
1 May 2013 | 3:34 pmFollow @martyfnemec Denver’s back was against the wall and it looked like it was going to be eliminated by Stephen Curry and the red-hot Golden State Warriors. This player stepped up to make that not happen. Andre Iguodala, Denver Nuggets 25 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block Andre Iguodala was a force to be reckoned with as he helped the Denver Nuggets fight off elimination in a 107-100 win over the Golden State Warriors. Carlos Delfino posterizes Kevin Durant (NBA)
30 Apr 2013 | 6:56 pmFollow @martyfnemec Normally Thunder forward Kevin Durant is on the giving end of posterizing dunks, but the roles were reversed in Game 4 when the Oklahoma City Thunder played the Houston Rockets. Rockets forward/guard Carlos Delfino stole the ball and ran for a fastbreak dunk. As he jumped, Durant jumped to meet him and ended up getting dunked on, an action which sent the Houston fans into an uproar. The Rockets ended up winning 105-103. -Marty F. Nemec
